Ian Moore Rocks the Heron
Austin, Texas teenage guitar prodigy, Ian Moore opened for The
Rolling Stones and ZZ Top, sat in with Bob Dylan and appeared in the
film Sling Blade with Billy Bob Thornton. Little more than a decade
later a respected guitarist/songwriter recording artist, Ian Moore
has lived on Vashon for a decade. In addition to having a family and
becoming more involved in the complexities of Island life, he has
been writing, recording and relentlessly touring, mostly in the
Southwest and on the East Coast, playing for rabidly loyal fans.
Luckily, once in a blue moon he stays home and plays for us. This
will be his first appearance at the Blue Heron Art Center.
Moore’s compositions have been compared to such diverse artists as
The Beatles and Brian Wilson to Leonard Cohen and Jeff Buckley. He
has even been called the “Roy Orbison of the 21st Century.”
Additional influences from the likes of Stevie Wonder, The Rolling
Stones (who he opened for) Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan and
others, Moore’s own style is simply indefinable and spans many
genres. And like all true artists, freedom from being pigeon-holed
is just fine with him. "I want my records to be all over the place.
I think that is far more interesting and honest and more in line
with being a human being,” he says.
Pick any one of his last six CD’s and like a many-faceted gem, each
one offers a different angle on Moore’s musical talent. Emotionally
raw ballads to upbeat progressive pop-rock, the common thread lies
in his flawless technique, literary vocals and attention to lyrical
detail. His 2004 release, Luminaria, was hailed by The Stranger as a
“highly successful… intricately layered, soulful pop record."
Moore’s brand new CD, To Be Loved (Justice Records) has also created
quite a stir with music critics and when you hear it, you’ll
understand why. “…A mix of precision and abandon,” according to the
Houston Chronicle. Timeless, eloquent, emotive and infectious Moore
once again delivers to his fans a finely polished masterpiece. "To
me, it's all about the journey," says Moore.
Don't miss this rare, intimate concert, an eclectic soulful mix of
Calexico, psychedelic and Ian-style folk. Joining Moore, will be
special guest, Colin Fuchs, from Austin, Texas. He plays vibraphone,
trumpet and guitar, is a regular at the infamous Cactus Cafe and has
backed legendary contemporary composer, Brian Eno.
